Why We Grow Our Seeds and Food Certified Organically
Organic agriculture values healthy soil, naturally rich and balanced in the
nutrients and minerals plants need, which can produce nutritious and
delicious crops without using chemical herbicides, pesticides or
fertilizers. That's why we grow 100% of our seeds and ingredients for our food products organically on our own certified organic research farms and through our unique network of certified organic family farms.
Why We Sell Only Open-Pollinated Varieties
With the frightening loss of seed and plant diversity worldwide, we practice
and encourage conservation. We each can take an active role in preserving
genetic diversity by saving and growing our gardens from open pollinated
seed varieties.
Why We Offer Many Heirloom and Rare Traditional Varieties
Heirloom and traditional varieties have been saved for generations because of their treasured traits. This tradition is an important feature of our seed list.
What Our Research Means to Taste, Beauty, and Health
Garden fresh vegetables can play an important role in a healthy diet. For instance, they are loaded with free amino acids needed to build protein. Each year, on our Research farms in New Mexico and Oregon, we concentrate on breeding and selecting varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers with the best flavor, most nutrition and stunning beauty.
